Description

Pino Settanni, Six Pyramids and a Palm Tree, created in 2000, is executed in mixed media on a photographic base.

In this work Settanni intervenes directly on the photographic image through colour, transforming photography from a means of recording reality into an integral part of the composition. This approach characterises an important aspect of his artistic research, developed through the dialogue between photography and painting.

Colour and the construction of the image

The composition is dominated by the pyramids and the palm tree, isolated and defined through an intense chromatic treatment. Colour alters the perception of the photographic image and assumes an autonomous role in the construction of the work.

Settanni thus moves beyond the boundaries of traditional photography, working directly on the surface and creating images in which photography, painting and graphic elements coexist within the same visual language.

Palm trees in Pino Settanni’s artistic research

The palm tree appears repeatedly in Settanni’s work around 2000. During the same year, the artist presented an exhibition devoted to Palme in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, confirming his particular interest in this subject during this period.

Six Pyramids and a Palm Tree therefore belongs coherently to this phase of his career, when the transformation of photographic images through colour became a significant element of his artistic research.
