Artistic current developed at the beginning of the 20th century. Its characteristic is to deny the representation of reality by using concepts represented through lines, colours and shapes.
The great painters of Abstractionism were Vasilij Kandinskij (Moscow 1866 – Neuilly-sur-Seine 1944), Pieter Cornelis Mondriaan, better known as Piet Mondrian (Amersfoort 1872 – New York 1944), Kazimierz Malewicz (Kiev 1879 – Leningrad 1935), Ernst Paul Klee ( Münchenbuchsee 1879 – Muralto 1940).
