The 1960s were a decade of unprecedented social change, London Paris and New York became cultural epicentres of this phenomenon, while advances in mass communications made possible the true globalization of youth culture.
The decorative art and the Design acted as a social barometer of these changes and reflected the hopes and aspirations of this new generation.
Scandinavian products in particular were widely celebrated for their high quality and design integrity. The best designers were Kaare Klint (1888-1954), Poul Henningsen, (Ordrup 1894 – Copenaghen 1967), Arne Jacobsen (Copenhagen 1902 – 1971), Finn Juhland (1912- 1989), Verner Panton (Copenaghen 1926 – Basilea 1998)
But the best 1960s designers were Italians.
