Sacred art is a modern concept, as in the past art was only sacred.
Modernity has imposed a purely profane art even if many great artists have continued to work for the church such as Gio Ponti (Milan 1891 – 1979) for architecture, Pericle Fazzini (Grottammare 1913 – Rome 1987) and Venanzio Crocetti (Grottammare 1913 – Rome 1987) for sculpture and Luciano Frigerio (Desio 1928 – Sanremo 1999) for furniture.
