The 1940s marked the end of the war and the beginning of reconstruction. The furniture of this period is basically made of wood, especially rosewood.
Armchairs and sofas had sinuous, rounded shapes and enveloping backrests, not separated by armrests.
Among the major designers of this period: Gio Ponti (Milan 1891 – 1979), Guglielmo Ulrich (Milan 1904-1977), Ico Parisi (Palermo 1916 – Como 1996), Marco Zanuso (Milan 1916 – 2001), Franco Albini (1905-1977) and the brothers Achille (1918-2002), Pier Giacomo (1913-1968) and Livio (1911-1979) Castiglioni
