Dali depicts scene I of Act I, opening the curtain on the city of Verona. As the servants of the Montague family engage in yet another quarrel in the streets, the Capulet palace stands out in the background, beautifully lit at a party. In that palace, Juliet’s father is in fact organizing an event to further his plans regarding his daughter’s marriage to the young Paris. It is in that very mansion that, shortly thereafter, Romeo and Juliet will meet and fall in love.
