Renato Marino Mazzacurati drawing
Female nude
€1.600,00
The drawing depicts a standing nude female figure, portrayed frontally, in a natural pose. The body is rendered with fluid, proportionate curves, typical of a modernist style that depicts the human form in an essential way, without superfluous details.
The work can be dated between the 1930s and 1940s, a central period in Mazzacurati’s career when, influenced by the Parisian avant-garde (Rodin, Matisse, Picasso), he became a leading figure in the Roman School.
At this stage, the artist explored themes of female nudes with an artistic cipher that harmonized realism with deformed features typical of the expressionist current; representative of this period are works such as “Female Nude” of 1943 or “Red Nude” of 1936. His style evolves from early cubism toward a more committed realism, reflecting the historical context of the postwar Avant-Garde.
Mazzacurati’s signature at lower left, written in flowing, slanted cursive with an elegant, personal handwriting, is consistent with the artist’s autograph signatures, often affixed in similar positions in his drawings and paintings. The work measures inch 8 ²¹/₃₂ x 14 ¹¹/₆₄ .
The work is sold framed.
