Description

Tammar Luxoro (Genoa1825-1899), artist and key figure in Genoese art, enrolled at the Accademia Ligustica di Belle Arti in 1842, where he studied with Domenico Cambiaso.

He founded the Società Promotrice di Belle Arti in 1849, contributing to the spread of the Grey School.

Influenced by artists such as Alexandre Calame and Antonio Fontanesi, he promoted the teaching of en plein air painting, although he encountered resistance from more conservative figures such as Giuseppe Isola. Luxoro later became director of the Scuola di paesaggio dal vero (School of Landscape from Life) and also devoted himself to the protection and restoration of Genoese historical monuments, engaging in polemics for the preservation of the city’s heritage.
