Achilli Antonio painting

Lake landscape

Lakeside landscape signed in the lower left: “A Achilli”, accompanied by a technical report written by Dr. Cirzia Virno.
The composition is built with a warm, textured brushstroke that enhances volumes, light, and perspective. The chromatic palette—dominated by ochre, olive green, and deep blue—captures the authentic atmosphere of early 20th-century Italian landscapes.

The artist Antonio Achilli (Rome, 1903–1993), unjustly overlooked by the critics of his time, is in fact one of the most significant figures of Italian art between the 1920s and 1940s. During this period, figurative painting—understood as a plastic and rigorous expression of reality—found in Achilli an interpreter of remarkable coherence and prolific output.
The work shows stylistic characteristics typical of post-war Italian painting: a rich and material brushstroke, a synthetic volumetric construction, and a strong focus on the Mediterranean rural landscape. Add this original work to your collection today!

Description

This artwork presents a rare and vibrant lakeside landscape painted by Antonio Achilli in full sunlight. The houses shine with bright pink tones that contrast with the green trees, the coastline, and the blue water. Moreover, the lively color palette enhances the Mediterranean atmosphere typical of Italian modern art.

The surface of the painting shows confident brushwork and a dense texture created with broad, layered strokes. These technical qualities indicate a mature phase in Achilli’s artistic career. In addition, they reflect his strong control of light, volume, and composition.

Antonio Achilli produced a vast body of work throughout his life. His output includes easel paintings, monumental fresco cycles, mosaics, and stained-glass windows found not only in Rome but across Italy and abroad. Furthermore, many of his major projects still survive and remain visible today.

Some of his most notable works include the fresco in the Aula Magna of the National Research Council, the decorations of several Roman churches, and commissions for the Firefighters Memorial and the Verano Cemetery. His artistic activity also extended beyond Rome, with important contributions in San Giovanni Rotondo, Molfetta, and other cities. Evidence of his work can even be found in Libya, Lebanon, and California.

This painting is ideal for collectors of Italian modern art, admirers of Mediterranean landscapes, elegant interiors, and investors interested in twentieth-century Italian figurative painting. Therefore, adding this unique artwork to your collection is an excellent opportunity to acquire an original piece by Antonio Achilli.
