This rare decorative object belongs to one of the most recognisable periods of Lalique’s production. The Archers model is recorded as Marcilhac No. 893 and was available in the Lalique catalogue between 1928 and 1937. The vase bears the moulded maker’s mark R. Lalique to the underside.
The black tone enhances the graphic strength of the design, giving the vase a powerful architectural presence. The contrast between the figures, the birds and the curved body of the vase creates a sophisticated visual effect, typical of Lalique’s mastery of glass as both a decorative and sculptural medium.
René Lalique transformed glassmaking into a major form of modern decorative art. His works are highly sought after by collectors for their technical quality, historical importance and unmistakable Art Deco aesthetic. The Black Archers Vase is therefore an important piece for collectors of Lalique glass, Art Deco design and early 20th-century French decorative arts.
This vase can be displayed as a refined collector’s object, placed in an interior design setting or included in a curated collection of modern decorative art.
