Sandro Cherchi
Sandro Cherchi (Genoa 1911–Turin 1998) was one of the key artists in of the history of 20th-century Italian sculpture.
After studying at the Accademia Ligustica in Genoa, his work brought him to Milan, where he moved in 1936 and met Aligi Sassu, Renato Birolli, The Giacomo Manzù collection, and Ernesto Treccani.
He became interested in ceramics. He met Lucio Fontana who invited him to Albisola.
Sandro Cherchi became part of the Corrente movement.
In 1951, he moved to Turin, and in 1963, he became the chair of sculpture at the Accademia Albertina of which he later became director.
During his prolific artistic career, Sandro Cherchi developed his own sculptural style.
He took part in the Biennials of São Paulo in Brazil and Alexandria, Egypt.
In 1958, he won the Spoleto Prize.
