Meret Oppenheim (1913–1985) created it in 1939 to participate, with Max Ernst and Leonor Fini, in the wonderful exhibition of fantastical furnishing at René Drouin and Leo Castelli’s gallery in Place Vendôme.
It was only in 1972 that the table was made by Dino Gavina.
Simon, which Dino Gavina founded in 1968, created an industrial production line of furnishing that has remained unchanged to this day thanks to Cassina. Until recently, when I saw her name, I associated it automatically with the famous Traccia coffee table with an oval structure and feet shaped like the legs of a fantastic bird.
