Ulvi Liegi

Livorno painter Ulvi Liegi, an anagram of Luigi Moses Levi (Livorno, 1858- 1939).

Ulvi Liegi’s studies

Liegi first studied with Carlo Markò jr. and Luigi Corsi.
In 1880 he moved to Florence. He attended the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence with Ciaranfi.

He interrupted his regular studies to try his hand at landscape, on the real inspired by the late Macchiaiolism of Telemaco Signorini and Fattori.

Made his debut in 1882 with works influenced by his frequentation of Signorini, Fattori and the Tommasi.

Exhibitions

In 1886 he exhibited at the First Livorno Art Exhibition, in the famous Pancaldi bathhouse.Paris and Impressionism

Arrived in Paris in 1886, where he met the painter Federico Zandomeneghi.
In 1889, Telemaco Signorini chose two works by Ulvi Liegi: Surroundings in Florence and The Evening to send to the Universal Exhibition in Paris.

Florence

From 1895 he settled in Florence and throughout his career, he had an intense and qualified exhibition activity.

Labronico Group

Lifelong member and president of the Labronico Group, he moved from the influence of the second-generation Macchiaioli to the international “postimpressionist” movement.

Painting technique

Performs in particular landscapes marked by vivid chromatism.
