Luigi Gioli
Luigi Gioli (San Frediano a Settimo 1854 – Florence 1947) was an Italian painter and post-Macchiaioli artist.
He initially studied law, but then devoted himself to painting.
His brother Francesco’s painting and his frequent visits to artistic circles, as well as his participation in discussions with the masters of the new art for the renewal of painting, were the fertile ground that nourished his training.
Of the Macchiaioli, of whom Luigi represents the continuity and can be considered one of the last exponents, he was particularly fascinated by the painting of Signorini and Fattori.
L’attività pittorica del fratello Francesco e la frequentazione con lui dell’ambiente artistico, la partecipazione alle discussioni dei maestri della nuova arte per il rinnovamento della pittura, furono il terreno di cui si nutrì la sua formazione.
Dei Macchiaioli, di cui Luigi che ne rappresenta la continuità si può considerare uno degli ultimi esponenti, doveva specialmente affascinarlo la pittura di Signorini e Fattori.
