Giuseppe Cominetti

Giuseppe Cominetti (1882-1930) was originally from Vercelli and attended the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts.

In 1902, he and his brother Gianmaria founded an atelier in Genoa and exhibited at the Genoa Promotrice and the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in Milan in 1906.

He tried his hand at painting, drawing for advertising graphics and illustration, and was inspired by Plinio Nomellini and the Divisionist masters.

In 1909, he participated in the Autumn Salon in Paris, where he moved with his brother.
From Paris, Cominetti watched with interest the birth of Futurism after the 1909 publication of the Manifesto in “Le Figaro” by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti. However, he did not officially subscribe to the 1910 Technical Manifesto of Futurist Painting.

In 1912, he participated in the Salon des Indépendants in Paris and opened a solo exhibition at the Gallery of Contemporary Art two years later.

At the outbreak of World War I, Cominetti enlisted as a volunteer in the cavalry and was sent to the French and then the Grappa front, where he received the official post of envoy draftsman.

This experience resulted in his extraordinary body of war drawings, which cover the entire war period until 1918.
At the end of the war, Cominetti returned to Italy and opened a new studio.

He died in Rome on April 21, 1930.
