Filippo de Pisis
The young painter and poet from Ferrara, Luigi Filippo Tibertelli, known as Filippo de Pisis (Ferrara, 1896-Milan, 1956), met Giorgio de Chirico during the years of the First World War, when the latter was in Ferrara.
After an initial adherence to Metaphysical movement, Filippo de Pisis went on to develop his own particular style: loose and nervous paintings, with an almost stenographic touch, sketching out the outlines of the objects composing his still lifes.
Emilio Cecchi writes:
“With De Pisis, one might say that painting wants to invite us to witness its own destruction. It is as if, through a magic art, the painted images liquefies, burns and volatilizes, breaking up into flakes and flitting away before our eyes”.
Les Italiens de Paris
In Paris, where he lived from 1925 to 1939, he was part of the group Les Italiens de Paris, together with Alberto Savinio, Massimo Campigli, Mario Tozzi, Renato Paresce, Severo Pozzati and the French critic George Waldemar.
