Galleria L’Attico

In the vibrant heart of Rome’s twentieth-century art scene, Galleria L’Attico emerged as a laboratory of avant-garde experimentation and creative freedom. Founded in 1957 by Bruno Sargentini together with his young son Fabio Sargentini, the gallery immediately became a bridge between Italy and the international contemporary art world. From its original location in Piazza di Spagna, through the radical experiments in Via Beccaria, to the historic venue in Via del Paradiso, L’Attico hosted artists such as Pino Pascali, Jannis Kounellis, Jean Tinguely, and many others—becoming a symbol of the cross-pollination between painting, installation, dance, and performance.
In this article, we trace its journey, its enduring legacy, and the pivotal role it played in shaping contemporary art in Rome and beyond.

Bruno Sargentini opened the contemporary art gallery L’Attico in 1957, continued by his son Fabio in Piazza di Spagna. It nurtured avant-garde painting and introduced installations, while also creating innovative synergy with dance, music and theater.

It fueled the success of Jannis Kounellis, Luigi Ontani, Pino Pascali, and Gino de Dominicis.
