Who Was Angelo Mangiarotti?
Angelo Mangiarotti (1921–2012) was one of the most influential figures in twentieth-century Italian design and architecture. Architect, designer, sculptor, and educator, he helped shape the international reputation of Made in Italy through his innovative approach to materials, construction techniques, and form.
Born in Milan in 1921, Mangiarotti graduated in Architecture from the Politecnico di Milano in 1948 before moving to the United States, where he encountered some of the leading minds of modern architecture.
The American Experience
As a visiting professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Mangiarotti developed relationships with renowned architects including Frank Lloyd Wright, Walter Gropius, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and Konrad Wachsmann. These experiences played a significant role in shaping his design philosophy and professional vision.
