Inheriting a tradition of art dating back to the 14th century, Italy, and Murano in particular, has allowed for the blossoming of refined techniques, executed by family factories whose signature is often the copying of antiques.
Breaking with this, the production of the 1950s is marked by its great vitality, both in terms of the number of factories and the renewal of the decorative language. A sculptor and designer trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, and a favourite of Gabriele D’Annunzio, for whom he made pieces in the 1920s, Napoleone Martinuzzi became director of the Murano Glass Museum (1922-1931) before founding the firm Vetri soffiati muranesi Venini & Cie in 1925 with Francesco Zecchin and Paolo Venini, a Milanese lawyer.
He later collaborated with Gino Cenedese’s firm, founded in 1946.
