Emilio Borsa: Italian landscape painter and engraver, famous for his Monza Park landscapes

Emilio Borsa (Milan, 1857 – Monza, 1931) was a renowned landscape painter, genre artist, and Italian engraver. A student of his father, an expert drawing professor, and Francesco Hayez at the Brera Academy, as well as his maternal uncle Mosè Bianchi, Emilio developed an early talent in the art world.

After an initial period dedicated to genre painting, Borsa established himself as a highly successful landscape artist, participating in art exhibitions in Milan, Rome, Turin, Palermo, Genoa, Florence, Verona, Venice, Paris, London, Munich, Barcelona, Berlin, Nice, and Buenos Aires. Among his most famous works is the painting “Primavera,” which marked his first major success.

His landscapes mainly depict the beauty of Monza Park, including “Bosco d’estate” (now in the National Gallery of Rome), “Nella valle,” “Quiete del lago,” (purchased by Umberto I), and “Ultimo inverno” (purchased by Vittorio Emanuele III). His art was awarded at the Paris Exhibition of 1889 and the Barcelona Exhibition of 1892.

In addition to painting, Emilio Borsa also produced significant etchings. He is highly appreciated as a landscape artist, with studies from life and large works dedicated to Monza, created between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His artistic production continues to be recognized and valued in the Italian art scene.
