Dante Ricci

Dante Ricci (Serra San Quirico, 1879 – Rome,1957).

He attended drawing classes with the painters Giuseppe Colarieti Tosti and Antonino Calcagnadoro, who encouraged and inspired him to continue his studies.

Dante Ricci left Rieti with his teacher Antonio Calcagnadoro and moved to Rome. At the Academy of Fine Arts, Ricci attended the classes of Filippo Prosperi and Dario Querci.

He participated in the exhibitions of the Roman Secession and even received positive reviews from Antonio Mancini.

Dante Ricci also devoted himself to engraving, especially etching, and successfully exhibited his first etchings at the exhibition of the “Gruppo incisori romani”, directed by Prof. Federico Hermanin, with flattering success.

In 1923 he participated in the Second Roman Biennale.

His works, scattered throughout Italy, Europe and the world, many of which are preserved in museums and public and private galleries, constitute a true testimony that honors Italian art.

For his outstanding merits, in 1931 the Egyptian government chose Dante Ricci to found the Royal Egyptian Academy in Rome, where he taught and directed the School of Figurative Art.
