This oil on canvas depicts Danaë at the moment Zeus approaches her in the form of a shower of gold. The subject draws on the Greek myth in which Danaë, confined by her father Acrisius, becomes the mother of Perseus.

The painting is attributed to a Venetian follower of Jacob de Backer. This wording identifies an artistic relationship; it does not present the work as an autograph painting by de Backer. The gallery’s records date it to the early seventeenth century and note an antique ebonized wooden frame with gilded details. An expert report by a CECOA-qualified specialist accompanies the recorded documentation.

Early seventeenth-century oil on canvas depicting Danaë and the golden rain, attributed to a Venetian follower of Jacob de Backer.

[6373,6407
5638,5654,5360
post-95127","product","type-product","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","product_cat-antique-art","product_cat-old-master-painting","product_tag-flemish-painting","product_tag-old-masters","product_tag-wall-decorations","first","outofstock","shipping-taxable","product-type-simple
