Many evocative works by the Roman School on the theme of the demolitions convey a deep sense of bittersweet nostalgia.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>The theme of demolitions in Rome<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the 1930s, Rome underwent exceptional urban expansion, mirroring the ideology of Fascist \u201cRomanity.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The areas around the Capitol, the archaeological area of the Republican Forum, the Imperial Forums, and parts of Renaissance and Baroque Rome, underwent major gutting. Demolitions removed the layers that had been added on the remnants of the classical age.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many Roman artists living in Rome worked on urban landscape paintings that depict the destruction of the medieval city to make way for Fascist Rome.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among the most noteworthy of these painters were <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/egidimadeinitaly.com\/en\/artists\/orazio-amato\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Orazio Amato<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Orfeo Tamburi, Duilio Cambellotti, and Antonio Barrera. All of these artists witnessed the cultural and physical transformation of Rome.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Eva Quajotto<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The works on the theme of the demolitions by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/egidimadeinitaly.com\/en\/artists\/eva-quajotto\/\"><b>Eva Quajotto<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Mantua, 1903 \u2013 Vallerano, 1952) echoed the subjects of Mario Mafai.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both bore witness to the urban transformations to which the fascist regime subjected Rome.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Three of these works are <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Demolizioni a Piazza Navona<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u00a0 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Demolizioni intorno all\u2019Augusteo<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Il Circo Massimo prima delle demolizioni<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Mafai&#8217;s ruins; they were not noble aqueducts or clusters of sulphureous columns, but humble little rooms that have been gutted, with tattered French wallpaper, the cone-shaped smoke of chimneys; they were broken rooms, still warm from having been lived in, to the point that it demands delicacy to peek at them, so eviscerated, from the outside.\u201d <\/span><\/i><b>Cesare dei Borghi, the name of the collection of buildings across from St. Peter&#8217;s Square.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Giovanni Omiccioli&#8217;s painting (Rome, 1901-1975) href=\"https:\/\/egidimadeinitaly.com\/en\/product\/modern-art\/modern-work-on-paper-en\/pietro-gaudenzi-painting\/\">Pietro Gaudenzi<\/a>. His art focused on representing the very specific historical period between the two world wars, the 1920s and 1950s in particular.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Roman painting landscape underwent profound changes in these years, and Barrera was closely involved in these changes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His works, especially the Roman landscapes painted between the 1940s and 1950s capture the daily life on the backdrop of monumental Rome, reflecting its social world in an era of great upheaval.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Antonio Barrera was a member of the <\/span><b>Roman atelier <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with the artists Orazio Amato, Orfeo Tamburi, Carlo Alberto Petrucci, Duilio Cambellotti, and Diego Angeli.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Tina Tommasini\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tina Tommasini (Treviso 1902 \u2013 1985) painter, ceramist.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With her brother and sister, Anna Maria and Nino, she took painting lessons from Aldo Voltonin (1892\u20131918), the divisionist and impressionist painter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 1930 she settled in Rome.
