He exhibited in Paris in the same year at the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Salon des R\u00e9alit\u00e9s Nouvelles.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Fulbright Foundation grant took him to Kansas City in Missouri between 1951 and 1952, first as a student and then as an artist in residence.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here he met Rauschenberg, Oldenburg, Cy Twombly, Pollock, and Klein.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He returned to Rome and worked in a studio near Piazza del few icons, through the works of Andy Warhol, Martial Raysse, Tom Wesselmann, Roy Lichtenstein, Richard Hamilton, Mimmo Rotella, Allen Jones, and Gerhard Richter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/egidimadeinitaly.com\/v25\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Mimmo-Rotella-Marilyn-e1679990433727-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Serid\u00e9collage Mimmo the year of Pop Art&#8217;s triumph in New York.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was the opening of a group show at the Sidney Janis Gallery on 57th Street.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Twenty-nine artists took part, including Jim Dine, Tom Wesselmann, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg, James Rosenquist, George Segal, and Andy Warhol, dubbed the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cnew realists<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A few weeks later, on December 13, 1962, the event&#8217;s importance was emphasized when MOMA, the Museum of Modern Art organized a round table on the controversial phenomenon called Pop Art.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All the best artists that were part of the round table had a solo show that same year in a New York gallery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An impressive number of art works were made in those 12 months.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many of them are now in museums and considered Pop Art classics.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Background of the Pop Art phenomenon<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By the mid-1950s, the solitary, furious <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">action painting<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of <strong>Jackson Pollock<\/strong>, <strong>Yves Kline<\/strong> and the other abstract expressionist artists who had thrown their inner worlds onto the canvas with their intellectual and existential tensions,\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">had <\/span><b>started to run dry<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and generate lackluster imitators.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Rauschenberg<\/strong> made the dramatic and highly emblematic gesture of buying a drawing by De Kooning, erasing it and then exhibiting it with the title <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Erased De Kooning Drawing<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: cancellato da Robert Rauschenberg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 1958 <em>Robert Rauschenberg<\/em> and <em>Jasper Johns<\/em> exhibited at <strong>Leo Castelli<\/strong> for the first time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Their art suggested a new expression to the generation that came after them, a new artistic and ideological form.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rauschenberg <strong>included everyday objects such as radios, bottles, clocks<\/strong>, and fans in an abstract expressionist context.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Johns used painted layers to intervene on a clear image of flag or target, transforming objects into paintings.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>The importance of Pop Art<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As I see it, Pop Art turned the concept of art on its head.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Andy Warhol reproduced silkscreen images taken from newspapers, consumer goods, and posters. His mechanical, cold \u2018art\u2019 created the effect of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">documentary realism<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, subverting the traditional concept of art as a human artifact.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you take a Campbell&#8217;s Soup can and repeat it fifty times, you are not interested in the retinal image.
