Filiberto Petiti<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Filiberto Petiti<\/strong> (Turin 1845 \u2013 Rome 1924)\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0was an excellent draftsman, a colorist of refined tastes, and a very talented landscape painter.<\/span><\/p>\n

Petiti studied under Manuele Cerutti at the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts in Turin.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He was a follower of Angelo Beccaria, Carlo Piacenza, and Telemaco Signorini.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Filiberto Petiti worked in public administration.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

His passion for painting<\/strong> brought him to Florence and then to Rome.<\/span><\/p>\n

Though he stayed true to his Piedmontese roots, he was attuned to the Macchiaiolo tendencies of Telemaco Signorini and he worked side by side with the landscape artists of the Group of the Roman Countryside.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

From 1880 on, he devoted himself exclusively to art and Verismo, both in oils and watercolors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Rivara School<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

In Rome, in 1874 Petiti met two Piedmontese artists, Vittorio Benisson and Carlo Pittara<\/strong>, the latter of whom was part of the Rivara School, whose mission was to overcome the dictates of Academic beauty through realism of rural subjects.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Exhibition<\/b><\/h2>\n

Paris<\/b><\/p>\n

Filiberto Petiti showed at the Universal Exposition of Paris in 1900 and won a bronze medal;<\/span><\/p>\n

Venice Biennale<\/b><\/h3>\n

In 1901 and 1903 he was at the Venice Biennale.<\/span><\/p>\n

Saint Louis Universal Exposition<\/b><\/h3>\n

Petiti won a silver medal in 1904 with <\/span>Notturno<\/span><\/i> [Nocturnal] at the Saint Louis Universal Exhibition and <\/span>Mare in burrasco<\/span><\/i> [Stormy Sea].<\/span><\/p>\n

Rome<\/b><\/h3>\n

He was an established engraver and painter and continued to show in Rome in many exhibitions. He exhibited his etchings <\/span>Solitudine<\/span><\/i> [Solitude] and <\/span>Dopo la tempesta<\/span><\/i> [After the Storm]\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Filiberto Petiti showed at the Roman Biennale (1921,1923), and in 1909 and 1922 at the group show organized by the “25th Group of the Roman Countryside<\/strong>” as part of the Society of the Amateurs and Connoisseurs of Fine Arts.<\/span>
\n<\/span>Some of his works are in major national collections, including that of the Presidency of the Republic in the Quirinal.<\/span><\/p>\n

Two of his paintings are in the Gallery of Modern Art in Rome: <\/span>Un torrente<\/span><\/i> [A River] and <\/span>Campagna romana <\/span><\/i>[Roman Countryside]<\/span>.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

In 1893, he was elected an academician of San Luca.<\/span><\/p>\n

He exhibited his painting <\/span>Verso sera<\/span><\/i> [Towards evening] in 1915 at the San Francisco International Exhibition.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
