Petrified Fossil Wood Sculpture

 

With a long shape rising upwards, this mineral has so much personality that it looks like the work of a contemporary artist. The predominant color is a gradation of black with white veins. This is why the great majority of fossils were formed following a volcanic eruption. Ashes can preserve a tree in a perfect condition for millions of years. But how do such fantastic veins form as we see in this piece?  It is when the wood is infiltrated by manganese iron ore or sometimes copper. This process developed over a period ranging from 50 to 270 million years in the ages known as the Triassic and Cretaceous Jurassic Ages.
