Pair of lacquered wooden benches
Louis XVI Style
A pair of Italian polychrome lacquered wooden benches with leather tops. Polychrome-painted carved.
Description
This highly elegant pair of benches is in Louis XVI style, made in the mid 19th century. The four legs are tapered in a truncated pyramidal shape, and the band is decorated with polychrome carvings with floral motifs interspersed with decorative elements depicting faces. The seat is beige leather finished with studs with golden brown heads. The relief treatment, type of lacquering, and perfect proportions let us confidently attribute these two benches to Piedmont and specifically Turin. Extremely high quality of the floral decoration and the characters portrayed in the medallions are inspired by the masterpieces of the great artist/engraver Giuseppe Maria Bonzanigo (1745-1820). The seat is beige leather finished with studs with golden brown heads.
