Pair of antique pots Delft
Pair of antique Delft vases
$5,265.00
Pair of late 18th century Delft manufacture faience potiches with lids. Monochrome decorations in the iconic cobalt blue of the manufacture.
Stamped on the bottom “Delft” Holland circa 1780.
Description
These traditional blue and white vases are circular in shape. The lids are surmounted by lion-shaped finials, typical of Dutch Delft.
They feature hand-painted floral medallions with classic Dutch flower and foliage decorations.
Made in the Netherlands around 1780, vases like these were placed on the mantelpiece or on a pair of shelves.
The production of Delft faience began in the 17th century. Much of the finest Delftware was produced in the Dutch town of Delft.
Delft potters began by coating their vessels with a white tin glaze and then a clear glaze, which gave depth to the fired surface and softness to the cobalt blue. In time, they achieved a good resemblance to porcelain.
By 1650, the technical skills of potters and painters had improved greatly, and Delft entered its golden age. A timeless and classic touch for a fine interior.
