The present bust of Gaius Octavius Caesar Augustus a particularly fine version of the antique model in excellent condition The bust depicts the young Octavian (later Caesar Augustus) presumably at the time of the death of his adopted father Julius Caesar. The hand brilliantly carved marble bust is separate from its base, but sits securely on it. Great and harmonious detail the figure conveys the tenderness as well as the determination of the young man later to become Rome’s first emperor.
