Marmorino is a material that has been used since ancient times. Marco Vitrurio Pollione, architect and Roman writer of the second half of the first century BC in his famous treatise ‘De Architettura‘ talks about  marmorino and how it was used to create masonry stratifications having a smooth  flat finish. A very complex technique used by highly skilled and expensive craftsmen. Later  marmorino wass used above all to create perfect surfaces on which to paint with fresco; the use of this precious masonry preparation technique was used above all in the upper Adriatic (Venice, Ravenna) Marmorino was widely used towards the end  of the fifteenth century, with the revival of  ancient Roman architectural models and the availability of highly skilled workers  capable of using the ancient masonry finishing techniques. Great Venetian artists such as Andrea Palladio and Sansovino used  marmorino for their magnificent constructions that we still admire today. This type of finishing was a perfect imitation of stone. We have some splendid examples like the Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara, the villa of Malcontenta, the Loggia of San Marco in Venice.
