Lacquered Round Table. Louis XVI style dawned in France in the late 18th century, featuring a selection of classic, elegant lines contrasting with asymmetry and lavish decorations typical of Rococo and Louis XV styles. The style is easily identifiable for favoring linear shapes, geometric precision, and symmetrical decorations evoking the motifs of classical antiquity. It was no coincidence that it was after archaeological discoveries in Herculaneum and Pompeii in the mid 18th century this cultural and stylistic renaissance had started to spread among architects and artists, who started to take these ancient civilizations as the “Perfect Model.”
