Old Master Painting Roman Countryside
Grand Tour oil on canvas depicting a Roman landscape
Oil on canvas with frame mid-18th century
Description
Oil on canvas depicting the landscape of the Roman countryside with figures and Rome in the background. In the foreground are farmers and their herds, and a figure of a knight is in the background. The scene features a majestic tree that dominates the entire space, and the grandiose walls of a castle or fortress appear under its branches. All this takes place on the banks of a placid Tiber, whose quiet flow has set the pace in the Roman countryside for centuries. The unmistakable skyline of the Eternal City is in the background but still a star of the scene. The dome of St. Peter's stands out in the distance along with the peerless light of the sky above Rome. Our painting can be attributed with confidence to the Van Lint circle. Our painter is part of the Flemish school active in Rome in the mid-eighteenth century . The painting, which has recently been repaired, is in virtually perfect condition. It is finished with a golden wooden frame.
