Seated in a gilded armchair, draperies provide a backdrop for her, hinting at a classical column, while she flaunts her jewelry with rare elegance and self-mastery. This important work can be attributed to a great French painter of the second half of the 18th century Jean-Baptiste Soyer (Nancy, 1752 – Saint-Nicolas-du-Port, 1828). The work is embellished with a wooden frame.

Description

Jean-Baptiste Soyer was born in Lorraine during the reign of Louis XV and trained by the greatest Lorraine painters, exercising his talents mainly in his homeland. He married during the Revolution and his five children were born in Nancy between 1791 and 1799.
