The watercolor on paper can be placein the period that Camillo Innocenti lived in Egypt. In 1923 he set up a solo exhibition at the Italian Circle in Alexandria, Egypt. He exhibited at the 2nd Roman Biennale-International Exhibition of Fine Arts where he presented thirteen works inspired by the African journey. In 1925, Innocenti participated in a competition announced by the Egyptian Ministry of Education for a position as director of the established Cairo School of Fine Arts. Having won, Camillo Innocenti moved to Egypt. He worked for the establishment of the Academy, which took place in 1928 and of which he held the directorship until 1937. In addition to directing, Innocenti's duties in the royal service were manifold: he was a teacher of painting in the School, and enjoying the personal friendship of King Fuad, he executed eleven portraits of the ruler, others of his son, the queen and court notables, made preparatory drawings for carpets, and executed copies of miniatures from Persian manuscripts in the Kedivian Library. He received distinguished personages on visits to Egypt and made paintings for Queen Nesla, accompanying her to museums and exhibitions. He painted a lot during those years, trying his hand at scenes of Egyptian folk life, landscapes, royal troops on camels, horses, ornamental objects, carpets and vases.
