Description

The Grande Mappemonde engraving, published by Andriveau Goujon, is derived from the Universal Physical, Historical and Political Atlas of Ancient and Modern Geography and was engraved by Flahaut, while the design of the beautiful decorations are due to Rousset. This Atlas represents, in the 10th century, the most complete, up-to-date and prestigious map of the terrestrial hemispheres. Interesting and amusing are the inscriptions on the engravings: Map of the world in two hemispheres according to the current state of geographical knowledge and the latest travels around the world. Our two beautiful prints retain their hand-colouring in watercolour and are embellished with two elegant coeval briarwood frames.
