Attilio  Pratella (Ravenna 1856 – Napoli 1949) oil painting

..if the spectacle and impressions of beautiful scenery were alone sufficient to form a great school of landscape painting, that branch of the art would have been nowhereperpetuated in higher degree of perfection than at Naples

F. Napier ” Notes on modern painting at Naples” London 1955

The Posillipo School was born with precise research requests, and takes place in ways of language that are always supported by an explicit need for renewal, in step with the most current expressions of European art.

Attilio Pratella is one of the most important painters of this school founded by Antonio Pitlooe, Frans Vervloet, and Raeffaele Carelli followed by his brother Consalvo.

Other important artists of the Posillipo School, are the brothers Gigante, Giacinto and Ercole, ,Gabriele Smargiassi, Pasquale Mattei, Teodoro Duclère, Salvatore and Francesco Fergola, Vincenzo Franceschini, and to conclude, Achille Vianelli
