Roberto Fontana
Roberto Fontana (Milan 1844–1907) studied at the Academy of Brera, as a student of Giuseppe Bertini and Notaris.
The beginnings
He graduated in 1865. He was a skilled painter and engraver. He painted historical subjects, sacred subjects, landscapes, rural scenes in the Florentine area, Capri marinas, and lagoon views.
He spent time in Florence and became one of the city’s best artists.
Prizes and accolades
In 1876, he won the Prince Umberto Prize in Brera for his oil painting Esopo che racconta le sue favole alle ancelle di Xanto. [Aesop Telling his Fables to the Maids of Xanthus].
Roberto Fontana, in 1913 he was recognized at the 8th Exhibition of the Association of Italian Artists at Palazzo Strozzi in Florence, showing five oil paintings and seven oil sketches.
