Luc Hueber

Luc Hueber was born on 27 September 1888 in Sainte-Croix-en-Plaine (Haut-Rhin).

In 1923, he made the trip – obligatory for any painter – to Florence.

The following year, he rented the former guardhouse at Petite-Pierre, in the Northern Vosges, where he loved to stay and which would remain intimately linked to his painting.

In 1928, he benefited from a contract with a syndicate of patrons from Strasbourg, which freed him from material worries and gave him the serenity necessary for a creative artist.

Exhibition at the Armand Drouant gallery in Paris

Luc Hueber in 1930 experienced consecration: his exhibition at the Armand Drouant gallery in Paris was a considerable success; the critics compared his painting to that of Chardin and Manet.

La Petite-Pierre

From 1940 to 1945, the Nazi occupation forced him to restrict his activity. La Petite-Pierre was a precious refuge for him.

Other exhibitions

When peace returned, he entered a period of prosperity; in 1946, his exhibition of a hundred works at the Maison d’Art Alsacien was a triumph.

In 1947, the DNA, under the signature of Robert Heitz, devoted a biography to him illustrated with thirty-two reproductions.

Thereafter, he participated in numerous group exhibitions and had individual exhibitions at the Aktuaryus gallery.

In 1968, to celebrate his 80th birthday, the city of Strasbourg organised a large exhibition.

Luc Hueber died in Strasbourg on 20 April 1974
