Active in Tournai and Amsterdam where he moved in 1647 and died in 1684.
His signature sometimes appears with the monogram HAL while on our beautiful engraving it appears written in full.
Huych Allardt was the progenitor and founder of the famous family of map engravers, publishers and print sellers in Amsterdam. He was the author of the famous cartographic work Nova Tabvla India Orientalis. A curiosity: his name is often spelled differently, such as Huijch, Huych, Huyck and his surname is sometimes without the letter T, i.e. Allard. Huÿch Allardt’s works can be found in prestigious museums such as the BNF (Bibliothèque nationale de France) and the British Museum.
