Giorgio Berlini

Giorgio Berlini recounted how Salvador Dalì invited him to his villa in Port Lligat and he brought one of his sail sculptures as a tribute to the famous surrealist. What could be better than a sail on the shores of the Mediterranean that Dalì’s old eyes saw go by every day? But, as we know well, Dalì was an original. He said: it’s not a sail, it’s a teardrop.

Giorgio Berlini made other versions of Sail, one of which was awarded by Prince Philip of Edinburgh to the winner of the 1981 Admiral Cup regatta. The winner, the New Zealander Blake, enthusiastically thanked the artist.
