Della Robbia manufacturing
The ‘a lustro’ technique has Middle Eastern origins and consists in giving to majolica a special finish thanks to the use of a special
mash applied by the artist after the second cooking in the oven, donated this precious glaze to the object.
The “Della Robbia” manufacturing fascility was founded in 1925 in Gualdo Tadino near Perugia.
They started the produce ceramics in accordance with antique models and then developed also their own line of ceramics that have become typical of the area.
Around 1938 the business name was changed from ‘Ceramiche Della Robbia‘ to ‘Società Luca Della Robbia‘.
They worked with artist of the likes of Aldo Ajó, Otello Frillici, Renzo Magni, Giovanni Marini.
Cooperation with the famous artist Leoncillo proved to be very important.
In 1975 the factory was bought by the company ‘Ceramiche di Montelupo‘.
